Community Service Saturdays
Often times we have middle and high school students who approach us about volunteering simply because they need to meet a certain number of community service hours in order to graduate or meet their program goals. We realize that these students may not have the desire nor the ability to commit to volunteering with us for the long term like so many of our other volunteers. These Saturday volunteer opportunities were developed in an effort both to better serve our community’s youth and to allow us to benefit from those CS volunteers who can meet our requirements.
CS Saturdays happen on the last Saturday of each month from 11am to 3pm. We can accommodate a group of up to 10 High School or Middle School students in need of fulfilling a requirement for community service hours. The cost for registration is $10/student. They will be supervised by the Humane Educator or their designee. All potential CS volunteers must fill out an on-line application and attend an orientation with a parent before participating in CS Saturdays. We will accept sign ups for any upcoming dates up to one week before the last Saturday of the month.
Shelter staff will make a list of projects throughout the month that can be completed by this group of students. This can include but may not be limited to shelter site maintenance, office filing and sorting, data entry, cleaning of the shelter site and animal enclosures, dog walking and cat TLC.
